The gameplay is more-or-less built for the HoI3 notification system, but lacks the effective AI gameplay management tools to look after itself if I'm not on the job all the time. I can't play any one part effectively, but the combination of wonky AI frontline management around invasion pockets. What would be really useful would be the option to "pop-up and pause" for every invasion (as it starts - not just before it starts - as that means I look, see nothing, look away, any by the time I come back they've landed and may even have a port), ever province lost (possibly making it filterable by states, but at the moment I'd be far better off under HoI3s notification system than I am now.Īt the moment, I need to do a map-scroll far, far too often to be fun, just to keep an eye on things. By the time I've noticed an invasion, more often than not, the enemy has a port (and my ports are garrisoned, and I have air superiority, but there's no way I have a fleet to match that of the US and Brits combined in '45, so the invasions will keep coming). The Byzantines had ended up at war with the US (Spain, who was in their faction, declared war on me for who-knows-what reason, and drew them in) - I have rapid-reaction forces scattered around to handle invasions, but they're no use at all in 1945 if the enemy is invading every other day (not actually an exaggeration for the last couple of weeks), and the audio cues are easily missed, the visual cues are off-screen and I'm busy focussing on another of the myriad invasions coming in. I'm a huge fan of HoI4 - I won't say it's broken or anything like that - but I was playing through as Greece into Byzantium today, and was simply overwhelmed by the clear gap between what was happening in the game, and what the game tells me is happening in the game.
